New Face of Dreamweaver CS3?

By Ken Xu on May 10, 2007 in Update News

Again, this post’s begin with a big question mark on the title and of course, it need an answer!

Have you ever use Dreamweaver CS3?

Dreamweaver is not a Dream-weaver. Nothing to do with your sleeping-dream or day-dreaming activities.

And CS3 isn’t about Counter Strike 3, too! Have nothing to do with Computer game!

Dreamweaver CS3 is a web Design Software. A productivity software that allow you to design website or Blogs with the feature of WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get).

dreamweaver-cs3-for-dummies.jpgIf you are a designer, especially a web designer, I’m pretty sure you have used this tool.

This post means to introduce you to the new user interface of the newest version of Dreamweaver. If you are a completely new to this program, and willing to learn more about it, I suggest you to buy a book ( for dummies book is great for beginner).

Click on this picture is you really interested and willing to buy this “for dummies” book.

Since Macromedia (Company that develop Dreamweaver) liquidated by Adobe, I have seen many improvement to the compatibility between macromedia & Adobe Programs.

Below is the working layout when using dreamweaver to create my page, Click to enlarge:

My Dreamweaver

Let’s see what have improved in this series of Dreamweaver I quote this text for the live docs of Adobe.com :

Spry framework for Ajax
With Adobe® Dreamweaver® CS3, you can visually design, develop, and deploy dynamic user interfaces using the Spry framework for Ajax. The Spry framework for Ajax is a JavaScript library for web designers that allows designers to build pages that provide a richer experience for their users. Unlike other Ajax frameworks, Spry is accessible to both designers and developers alike, as 99% of it is actually HTML.

Spry widgets
Spry widgets are prebuilt, common user interface components that you can customize using CSS, and then add to your web pages. With Dreamweaver, you can add a number of Spry widgets to your pages, including XML-driven lists and tables, accordions, tabbed interfaces, and form elements with validation.

Spry effects
Spry effects are a simple, elegant way of enhancing the look and feel of your website. You can apply them to almost any element on an HTML page. You can add Spry effects to enlarge, shrink, fade, and highlight elements; visually alter a page element for a certain period of time; and more

Advanced Photoshop CS3 integration
Dreamweaver includes enhanced integration with Photoshop CS3. Now, designers can simply select any portion of a design in Photoshop—even across multiple layers—and paste it directly into a Dreamweaver page. Dreamweaver presents a dialog box where you can specify optimization options for the image. Should you ever need to edit the image, simply double-click the image to open the original layered PSD file in Photoshop for editing.

Browser Compatibility Check
The new Browser Compatibility Check feature in Dreamweaver generates reports that identify CSS-related rendering issues in a variety of browsers. In code view, issues are flagged with green underlining, so you know exactly where the problem is. After you identify the problem, you can quickly fix it if you know the solution, or, if you need more information, you can visit Adobe CSS Advisor.

Adobe CSS Advisor
The Adobe CSS Advisor website contains information on the latest CSS issues, and is accessible directly from the Dreamweaver user interface during the Browser Compatibility Check process. More than a forum, a wiki page, or a discussion group, CSS Advisor makes it easy for you to comment with suggestions and improvements to existing content, or to add new issues for the benefit of the entire community.

CSS Layouts
Dreamweaver offers a set of predesigned CSS layouts that get your page up and running quickly and help you learn about CSS page layout by providing extensive inline comments in the code. Most site designs on the web can be categorized as one-, two-, or three-column layouts, each with a number of additional elements (such as headers and footers). Dreamweaver now offers a comprehensive list of essential layout designs that you can customize to fit your needs.

Manage CSS
The Manage CSS feature makes it easier for you to move CSS rules from document to document, from the head of a document to an external sheet, between external CSS files, and more. You can also convert inline CSS to CSS rules, and place them where you need them—just by dragging and dropping.

Adobe Device Central
Integrated with Dreamweaver as well as throughout the family of Creative Suite 3 software, Adobe Device Central simplifies the creation of mobile content by giving you the ability to quickly access essential technical specifications for each device, and shrink the text and images of your HTML page to show accurate rendering as it would appear on the device.

Adobe Bridge CS3
Use Dreamweaver with Adobe Bridge CS3 for easy and consistent management of images and assets. Adobe Bridge provides centralized access to your project files, applications, and settings, along with XMP metadata tagging and searching capabilities. With its file-organization and file-sharing features, plus access to Adobe Stock Photos, Adobe Bridge provides a more efficient creative workflow and keeps you on top of your print, web, video, and mobile projects.

I think this version will make web designer & developer mad because of the compatibility with Photoshop, Bridge, and the new Device Central. It enable them to do more complicated things in an easy methods. For example, “Spry” is on of the features that allow user to use AJAX easily using spry widget.

Unfortunately, I notice that in this version of Dreamweaver, the GUI (Graphical User Interface) didn’t improve much. If you are a user from the last version (CS2), you’ll notice that the only change in GUI is they put in the spry panel in the group of insert bar on the top of the screen.

Dreamweaver CS3 not only can make great website for computer view, with adobe device central, you can even view your webpage in a virtual Cellphone screen to make sure your page is readable

And like before, this product have a price as high as $399 for the full version, or $199 if you want to upgrade from the CS2 version.

I’m not suggesting you to buy this. But, if you have spare money, buy this product! With this product to create great site integrated with the AJAX and CCS2 easily! I guarantee you’ll rate it 2 thumbs up! (Btw, I’m using
