Information plays a vital role in world of business. If you’re in business environment, you’ll lose one step behind your competitors if you do not get update/can’t keep up with the latest news on the industry for the business you are involve in.
To keep up with the latest news, you need to keep reading and understand what’s happening. Because there is lots of information you need to read, you will arrive at a state which people called it “Information Overloaded”.
Information Overloaded is very scary. You’ll find your room full of books and papers. It’s impossible to read every information you have collected from several sources. Online world is scarier than offline.
If you make a full uses of RSS Feed Reader, you will found your reader stuffed by new information every day, hours, or even every minutes!
These tips will somehow give you a breath and unload your head from the weight of information.
First Tips:
Rate your information with 1 - 10. Sort it with the important of the information. Analysis it well and unsubscribe from the source of information that you rate with 1 to 7. They are information that won’t provide you any help at all and not relevant with your work.
Second Tips:
If you found informative site, try to bookmark the link. And if you found informative articles, print it out to read it offline! Don’t read online because you will tend to circling around the website. This won’t help you at all, instead, it make you wasting hours of your time when you can read all important information in 5 minutes!
Third Tips:
Don’t let your waiting time or Traveling time waste for nothing. Wherever you are, inside train, bus, queue in the bank, etc. try to read something useful. For the busiest people, the only time they have to read something other than their work’s documents is inside bus or train.
Fourth Tips:
Spare some time a day for reading. Half hour is enough. You must find the time when you can relax. Because when relax, you can absorb more on the information you read.
Fifth Tips:
Attend to a speed reading courses and bought books which teach you how to read faster. It will help you a lot to digest the overwhelming information!
Sixth Tips:
Try to make a habit to read the conclusion of an article before actually read it all. If you’re interested, then read on. If not, jump to the next article. This will let you save more time to read other article.
Seventh Tips:
Before reading, make sure you have ready with a pen in your hand and a note book on your desk. This two items will help you to digest hard-to-understand articles by noting down point per point of the article to create a summary.
Eighth Tips:
Have a rest, buddy! A Study shows, people can maintain their concentration in a best condition in 50 minutes. And people will need to take a rest of 10 minutes to absorb what they have read just now. So, if you try to force yourself to read more and more, it means nothing and sometimes will hurt yourself.
I actually practice these tips on my daily life since graduate from high school. I find it useful for me to digest more books that I ever had.
