Vista Hardware Compatibility List

By Ken Xu on Jun 1, 2007 in General

vista-bad-or-good.jpg It have been many discussion before about Vista. People still confuse whether they should upgrade to Vista or not. Hopefully, my last post and this post will harness your mind and make up your decision.

Below is the list of trouble hardware in Vista:

Wireless LAN / WLAN

Vista put less integrated driver on Wireless LAN hardware, but Vista still include the newest WLAN driver. for D-Link brand, you can use the default driver from vista. No need to install any additional driver to make the WLAN working.

this also apply to Linksys, MSI, and Zyxel or the intel wireless chipset WLAN. For intel itself, you can find the driver at their local website. Unfortunately, the WLAN list end here. Other WLAN hardware is not supported in Vista. For example, NetGear brand.

Until this post is written, you can only find the Beta version of vista driver. And it’s not working well with Vista. And for other older WLAN Devices and Hardware, you will having a hard time finding driver for Vista. Vista is kind of cool-hearted OS for oldies hardware.

Printer

Laser Printer almost all compatible to Vista, except LaserJet 1020 from HP. They promise to provide the driver this July 2007. Reversely for inkjet printer, you need to hunt down driver from each vendors official site. Example, for canon printer, you can use this URL to find their latest driver : www.canon-asia.com (for Asia Region). Epson Printer seems to working well with Vista now, especially the Multifunction printer.

In fact, from the beginning of the release of Vista, Epson have compatible with it. And still, Epson will release new driver for Vista to increase their market visibility. What about Lexmark and other Printer? Well, they works well with the standard driver provided by Vista. Less feature but still operatable.

TV Tuner

This is the most incompatible hardware that Vista ever had! Only brand from Hauppauge and Pinnacle that fully compatible with Vista. How about the other brand?

Unfortunately, they also won’t work with the default Vista driver nor from its own manufacturer. You need to check to the vendor to see whether they have release vista compatible driver or not.

no, Labanon! I don’t recommend people to use Vista nor making them dislike it.

Only reviewing some facts that hopefully will help people make their decision to “use” or “not to use” Vista.
Since Vista is still unstable, people who “love challenge” will like to use it to research more solution for other and make money.

Reversely, some people will tend to wait for other to find them a “solution” to Vista.

It’s depend on which section you are thinking at.

You right, Maris. I tested vista Trial on my Pentium 4, 512mb, with onboard graphic card and 40Gb HDD. It’s working. Only a “little” slow to use.
