switchplanet_logo.gifSwitch planet? Hmmm… This must be the dream of everyone that scare of the global warming issues. But, this switchplanet is different. Nothing related to astronomic problem!

So, What is switchplanet.com all about?

Switchplanet.com is a trading / barter site for CD, DVD, books and Video Games that all happen for Free! Although they are still in the Beta version, their system and the trading processes have been running properly.

When you pay your first visit, you will find this splash screen:

From the splash screen, SwitchPlanet.com give you 2 choices. Whether you want to check their site first, or get going and sign up for their membership and begin your trading with their members.

If you are not sure about switchplanet.com, try to checking on their site first. As a guide for you, below picture will show you some of their internal side of site:

I only show you their hotspot of their site. In this box, member start all their wishes / offers. I think they call it “switch_this” panel. Ok, let’s click on the Comedy category:switch-planet-comedy1.gif

With this picture, you will know what is the main features that SwitchPlanet.com have. You can find your old memories movies, games, books and songs here! By placing your “Wish It” on the movie that you wanted, you are queued in the list and wait until there is a people who have the related movie and want to trade with you.

“Use more … waste less!” is SwitchPlanet main Slogan. Let them tell you how to do that with their switching program:

Use more…waste less! The idea is simple but the end result is amazing. Members save money by trading the things they already have but no longer use to get the things they need. One person gets rid of something taking up space in their home and another person benefits by filling a need…so everyone wins.

Most importantly SwitchPlanet was built to help an even greater need. Because SwitchPlanet is free to use members are given the option to donate any amount they choose every time they receive something for free on the SwitchPlanet Network. These donations are put into a SwitchFund that is then distributed among selected charities and non-profit organizations.

SwitchFund is their charity channel and contribution to help the poor one through this below 5 charity groups:

American Red Cross – www.RedCross.org
Boys and Girls Clubs of America – www.BGCA.org
The Nature Conservancy – www.Nature.org
American Cancer Society – www.Cancer.org
Child’s Play Charity - www.ChildsPlayCharity.org

If you feel you have a spare $1 of money, try to donate to them. Do some good deeds to save your day and other’s life.

Their Founder, Chris Samarin said “If we can get millions of people using the site and donating on average $1 per month, wow, we can sure help a lot of people if that happens.”

I’m totally agree with them. If everybody happen to save only 1 dollar a day and donate to the others, There will be no poverty in this world!

Beside giving you fun by trading your favorite movies, CD, DVDs, Books and Games, SwitchPlanet let you do some good deed by donating your spare money.

And you also can do some socialization with your trader! SwitchPlanet.com provide you tools like Friends panel, Groups and Forums to discuss your idea and products you wanted to search for.

So… Let’s conclude this review:

SwitchPlanet is a right place for having fun on trading something with no fee attached on the processes. And of course, SwitchPlanet will be the good source if you want to do some good deed for others.

But, I’m kind of disappointed with them because I can’t find other category to barter with. Their category limited to Books, CD, DVD, and Video Games. I hope they can add more category to their system.

Switchplanet also have their own blogging space at this link. If you have spare time, join as their writer if you want. They are searching for 2 more writers for their blog.

With more and more junk piling up everyday. We need millions of sites like this. Can you imagine what electronic junk piles are going to look like in 10 years?

Our company already has a stock pile of monitors that will never go anywhere.

Hmm… I can imagine that, Listikal!
That’s really a trouble that many company should face. Including the company I’m working with now! So many CRT Monitor that have been Switched to LCD Become useless and put in the garbage room!
But, SwitchPlanet.com do not handle Computer hardware Such as Monitor! They only support mini size goods like books or CDs. That’s why I feel a little “disappointed” with their service. I wonder their SwitchFunds want to accept hard goods beside money…
