Sharpen Your Communication Skills

By Ken Xu on Jul 13, 2007 in Blogging

As a blogger, I think we need to really understand what our reader said and how to answer their questions and comments. We will need “sharp” communication skills to bring up front any kind of answer as fast as possible, yet we can solve our reader’s question.

The following is one of my personal research and how to make sure you “understand” what’s your reader commenting before you reply them and to avoid miscommunication between you and your reader.

border.jpgRead, Read, and Re-Read!border2.jpg

Make sure you have read carefully before making any move to your finger to type in your reply content to your reader. I ussually read 3 times to understand the comments deeply before starting to form my words for the reply.

If you have a lot of comments to reply. Don’t haste! Do it one-by-one and never bring upon your previous reply/answer to other comments. Usually, a comment is stand alone. Although the comments have a connection with the previous one, it is a different reader, anyway! :)

border.jpgAvoid Jargons and Alien Vocabs border2.jpg

This one is important. If you are a tech-review blogger, or doctor, or Phd degree insane smart people, avoid using your alien vocabs or Jargons to much in your content. It will make your reader feel that you are Big Headed person, and not considering the people who read your content / comments.

If you want to use the jargon or technical words, make sure to “explain well” what the meaning is! Or you will alienate your reader…

border.jpgMake Mistakes? Apologize Immediately! border2.jpg

Something that human cannot do easily is to lowering their ego and apologize immediately. Because that “seems” making them became a low life monster! Is it right?

Hmm… I don’t think so. And Immediately respond to our mistakes and say ‘I am so sorry!” or “ops, it’s my mistakes” proved that you are a sportive people. Dare to admit, dare to fail! Comparing “peoples who try to hide his mistakes and always show up his perfect face” with “you who dare to say sorry“:

  • They are nothing but a scam, and
  • you are something valuable that worth to make a friend about!

border.jpgAllocate a “special moments” for Replying Comments border2.jpg

You will need a specific time allocated for replying your blog comments. The reason is because you need to “focus” on what your are doing at. Avoid replying comments when you are working at your new post. Beside making your idea of writing run away, you will probably not “focus” enough to the reply itself.

Although replying as soon as possible is crucial, you still need to focus on what you are doing at. Finish your post, reply after that. I’m sure your reader will understand your situation. :)

Replying comments is one of the many communication skills in blogging. I hope you can make a full use of this post for your blog! :)

Have a nice day!

Well, good post. I think good communication also includes grammar. I’ve to work on my English grammar and vocab too. And I think most of the pro bloggers need to do, at least the ones, who’s native language is not English.

Well, this question is for all the readers here….what else do you do to sharpen your English grammar and vocab?

Ouch! You’ve shot the bullseye, Mayank! :)
It’s also my biggest problems because English is not my primary language and not even my second and third!

But, I have some resources that have become my online manual book for better english. I also bought several useful Audio Tutorial that prove to increase and develop my poor english. :)

I will tell you the resources with a post later! :)

Good post. You make some great points that most people
    do not fully understand.

“We will need “sharp” communication skills to bring up front any kind of answer as fast as possible, yet we can solve our reader’s question.”

I like how you explained that. Very helpful. Thanks.
