It’s been 6 months since the last time I land my first finger on my keyboard to type post content for my blog. Through the months, I have learned something important for me to keep blogging for the entire life.
My last three months records of post is not so good because I was having a regular blogger block every 2 days once. Oh yes, I actually counting it and I was squeezing my head every 2 days once. ;p
Luckily, I found Darren’s Post via Brian Heys about battling blogger block.
I found that post, I love it, I printed it to a A4 papers and I read it everyday since that time. Finally, I’m able to make things better. I managed to crystallize the tips and found a good idea stimulators tool for creating more content.
I will share you my top 3 Idea Stimulators in battling blogger block below.
Books
It’s obvious, and it’s clear that most of our inspiration is coming from books. But don’t go nuts with it. Reading more than your brain can digest will not find you fresh ideas, but it will hurt you psychologically.
There is a study that said human can maintain a very good focus and concentration in the first 15 minutes. You will memorize and understand almost everything in the first 15 minutes. After that, your thinking will become blur as the concentration is begin to break slowly.
I tend to read about 15 minutes x 5 times a day. I do it with a regular schedule like:
- When wake up from bed (after a little jog and exercise)
- When Queuing in the crowded line (for example: in Bank)
- Lunch time
- Noon (after going back from office)
- Night time before sleep
Make a good use every 15 minutes and you can read and understand 1 book of 300 pages in 3 days.
Blogs
Blogs is another great resources for idea stimulation. You build blog and you should read blogs. Find any kind of topic-related blogs and find what they are doing at. You can actually continue someone’s half-discussed topic as your new post and link to him/her to make some friend.
Another resources of me when finding idea online is through stumbleupon and digg.
Stumbleupon have a ‘channel stumble’ feature. It allow me to stumble for content of my choice which is thumbs up by other user to find idea for my post.
Btw, if you have a stumble account, please add me as your friend list. My account is kenxu.stumbleupon.com. I will stumble any kind of good post that will educate me and other blogger. Feel free to send me your request.
watch out: willing to stumble only good post. Post like sponsored review, hard-pitch selling post or any kind of non-educative post will not get any thumbs up from me. Sorry.
Digg also one of my favorite idea digging tool. thousands and thousands of stories ready for you to combine, renew, modified or even squeeze some essence of ideas.
Other optional resources: Megite and Techmeme.
Babbles
I found babbles or conversations between blogger is not always about relationship, but it’s also about finding new topic and idea for your upcoming post.
Believe it or not, our daily conversation with family & friends will stimulate new topics of discussion for you to blog about.
Of course, not all conversation is good and will stimulate new idea for you. A talk like neighborhood gossips won’t help you a lot.
The conversation is including online chatting with friends too. It’s not limited to a face to face conversation. Sometime an one-way conversation like email also will help, only it’s less effective than immediate response conversation like chatting and one-on-one talking.
Chatting is my daily activities with some best blogger friends of mine. If you would like, You can join my conversation at my GTalk account (kenxu89) or add me to your friend list.

Conversation with my ‘kind-blogger-friends’ produce me a lot of new idea. The easiest way to find idea in conversation is through a “whining” or “disappointment” in your conversation.
Example?
“Oh Ken, I don’t have any clue about Wordpress Plugin.”
“That’s suck! The sitemap generator is so hard to install.”
“Oh, I’m having a blogger’s block today. I wonder how could I handle this matter.”
Let’s take the second example about sitemap generator. You may notice that other people have post about it, and not only one, but lots of them.
It’s unwise to try to write the repetitive content. In my personal experience, I would try to escape a little from the main idea (but not off-topic) but still have the sitemap generator discussed.
Try to modify the existing idea into a wider focus:
- SEO your blog by laying a Blue Print ( Blue Print = Archives page, Sitemap Page and XML sitemap)
- How to Make your blog more visible to Search Engine (Include Sitemap generator as one of the point in the discussion)
Or try to narrow the focus of the existing idea:
- Dummy Detail Guide to Code your Own XML Sitemap
- How Sitemap Generator will help you generate more customer
Above is just an example. I think it’s not simple if you have no deep knowledge in the field. That’s why you should blogging on what you like, or where your passion is on.
Only with that way, you could turn a dust into a gold.

Great ideas Ken. Absorbing more inforation is a great way to stimulate more blogging ideas. I found that when I read the latest Harry Potter book I had no problem blogging because my mind was buzzing!

Ken, I have another problem: Too much inspiration! I could write 5 posts a day at least, but I have only time for 1… Can you help me?

LoLz! Your are unique, Tad!
Reply to Ken XuIt’s better for you to note them all to a book and declare & diversify the inspirations clearly. I’ve also tasted this kind of experience before. the climax will bring you to be able to create 10 posts ideas in one day.
Its overwhelming me, I’m excited but it’s unwise to post them all. Since we need to maintain our frequency and regularity, it’s best to make the ideas and inspiration for our future days.
