Key 2 - Choose Your Brand Carefully!

By Ken Xu on May 19, 2007 in General

secondkey.jpgWelcome to the second key, another door for you to open. On the last post, I have share you my first life principle in shopping. Today, I’m going to tell you why Brand is crucially for successfully buying “cheapest” or “cheap-and-best” product.

Like I’ve said in my overview, Branding is not exist for nothing. Famous brand also not exist in the market just because they are famous, but it is because of their service and quality.

Building Great Brand is like building the Great Wall of China. It require the power of moral and spiritual, consistency, endurance and Steel-Solid Commitment from the inner heart of the Leader.

Great Leader always come with a great Brand. Henry Ford is one of the historic-example.

Ok, I’m not sharing about history here…

What I am going to tell you is : Brand is important. Period.

So many.. many people tend to ignore brand to looking for features. They are just like teaching their baby to run before learning how to sit tightly. Something that very important have been missed out without they even knowing it.

My life example tought me this. I went into a very deep self-introspection to finally realize this poin. Before I was realizing this fact, I was just like other people.

Come to the store and say words like this: “Hey, buddy! I want to buy a laptop that have supported S-ATA, DDR3, Core2Duo and Hard Drive 160 Gigabytes. Ignore the high-class brand. I want cheap one.”

Yes, it is true that you will get a “cheap” price. But you sacrifice two most important elements that must exist on a product… The Brand and Quality!

And I’m not suggesting you to buy a high class brand, though… But, My suggestion is to buy the highest price that you can afford it. Especially an electronic goods. We have a very good chinese saying to express this: “一份钱,一份货”.

A penny worth a bit more quality” — may become an understandable translation.

Technically speaking, something is expensive because they have great brand and quality. But, this kind of measurement is kind of paradox to tell.

Because of Budget problem, it makes people try to measure brand and quality with the sum of money in their wallet, or how many zero on their ATM card statement. Peoples’ who have high budget will say a $100 bubble gums is not expensive while low budget peoples will screaming just by hearing that.

Continue from the key 1, researching not only prices and testimonial, but try to include brand as your research subject. My usually habit when purchasing a product is to get min. 5 sources of data, and compare it by making a diagram or table. Then I will sort it ascending with the famous brand and on the top.

If I have 7 data sources, I will take the middle choice or 1 step higher if I can afford it. Never bother the lower parts. Those will likely a low branding and low quality product. I also never touch the highest rank product. I just can’t afford to pay that much.

Middle-High Rank product is the second key of this post. It’s where the Quality, Brand and Price come together to form a great cheap-and-best product.

This is still a preparing phase, If you fail to prepare, than prepare to fail! Define, Research, and Choose your product carefully before putting your money on the table.

The second door’s opened. The third door will come. It need a key. The key in the next post… Find it there.

Thanks for your attention and good bye.

Agreed on the branding part. Recently, I purchased 3 laptops for my friends. All of them have different budget constraints. Although, the laptops are from the same brand. The one who paid for the lowest is now regretting not paying a few hundred more to get a better one. Her laptop processing is worst than the movement of a snail :P

    Hi, Criz!
Branding is truly important. I always buy less branding product before, and what I got was a less quality product! easily broken, bad customer supported and hard to request for replacement

Fortunately, I’d realize this point and that’s why I put “price as my last key”. I will share you more about “quality” in my next post. And I will also let you know why in a same brand, you will get 3 level of quality product. Stay tune!
