By Ken Xu on Jun 27, 2007 in General

Hello again! :)

Thanks for visiting my blog. In this post, I’m going to discuss about 2 Free Color Picker Software that recommended by my friends.

Yesterday, When I published my post about AdesClrPicker Software, 2 friends of mine, SankarAnand and Nirmal, came to my blog and wrote a recommendation on color picker freeware that they are using now.

So, I have tried it and below is my Short review of the freeware:

SankarAnand recommend me to use his personal use color picker, Eltima Absolute Color Picker.

I have tried it and here is my opinions:

Eltima Absolute Color Picker is a “Powerful” Freeware!

Why Powerful? Because it have many option of color picking, begin from:

  1. HSB Brightness
  2. HSB Radial
  3. HSB Hue
  4. RGB 3D
  5. Sphere
  6. HSB Hue 2
  7. Pens
  8. Hexagons

Still Not enough option? Eltima absolute color picker still have the last option called “Palletes”.

Inside the palletes, you will have more choice of color to choose! Begin from:

- System Colors
- Windows
- MAC OS
- Visi Bone
- Visi Bone 2
- Web Hues
- Web Safe Colors
- Web Spectrum
- Simple Gradient:
- No Red
- Medium Red
- Max Red
- No Green
- Medium Green
- Max Green
- No Blue
- Medium Blue
- Max Blue

Large Scale of Color Selection! And What interested was Eltima also have a same ability to take your screen color sample! (Just like what Ades capable of!)

Take a look at its activeX panel. The lowest white box is what I’m talking about! When you click and hold down, you can drag your mouse to the color that you are going to get. and The white box will become a pixel viewer. The color that you choose will appear at the upper right corner box.

It’s really powerful for a free software! I wonder why the don’t charge anything for this software!

Oke, Time for the second Color Picker.

Color Cop was recommended by Nirmal. My conclusion to this freeware are:

  1. Simplicity - Very simple interface and usage.
  2. Great 16x magnifier zoom

This software is very simple. It have a photoshop-like panel collapse feature. See this picture for detail:

Interesting, Save workspace, and cute!

To take a color sample, you’ll need to click on the eyedrop tool and the lower white box will become your guide on where your pointer is. When you click on a specific spot, Color Cop will make a temporarily image on the box (inside the lower white box).

You then can make a zoom in and zoom out at your ease. With color cop, you’ll have the ability to zoom in to the see each of 1 color pixel. It think this is the feature that other don’t have! (Including the panel collapse feature)

Color cop will stay at the top of your windows every time you run it. You can disable this option by right clicking on the title bar and click on the “always on top” menu to turn off the ability.

You will find more features in Color Cop when you right clicking inside the windows. You also can change the color selection mode from:

  • HTML Hex
  • Delphi Hex
  • PowerBuilder
  • VB Hex
  • C++ Hex
  • RGB Float
  • RGB Int

Real good feature for Freeware! Not bad at all!

So, Which Color picker you will choose? Tell me your opinions.
