This is an unfriendly alert if your don’t know how to handle it properly! The main causes may be in this list:

  • Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
  • Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
  • Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
  • Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
  • Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.
  • Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
  • Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.
  • New hard disk drive being added.
  • Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.

Solved!

For the general problem, NTLDR missing is the mainly because of the Corrupted NTLDR file. The easiest way is to copy and rewrite the file with a fresh one. But, where to find one & how to rewrite it? Here I’ll help you! :)

  1. Insert your Windows XP CD to your Drive
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Set your BIOS to First Boot to CD/DVD Drive, Save and restart
  4. Press any key when your get a command “Press any key to Boot from CD …. “
  5. Wait until everything completely load up.
  6. ntldr-is-missing-guide.gifOn the first screen, Press R button.
  7. You will directed to a black MS-DOS Screen, Press 1 (or the shown number of OS that more than one) and enter
  8. Input your Admin password and press Enter. You will enter to a Command prompt Mode.
  9. C:\WINDOWS> ( or the letter of your drive) is the current directory position. Next is to input the following code to copy your NTLDR files to rewrite the corrupted one:
    • copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
    • copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
  10. The NTLDR file is located at your Windows XP CDRom Drive. The “e:\” is the letter of where your cd drive letter. Make sure to change it to the right letter.
  11. type exit, and it will restart automatically.
  12. Eject your CD from the drive, and Enjoy the recovered Windows! :)

This problem is a normal problem for me. I usually face it when I misplace my hard drive location or plug my S-ATA cable incorrectly. I use this steps to recovered everything in not more than 10 minutes. If you have face this problem before, please rest assure now! :)

If I understand your answer you are copying the file from the CDRom drive. What if you are copying the file from the A drive? I have the file on floppy, but my computer was not able to read the floppy. How do I get the computer to read my floppy so that I can copy the file?

    Help
