Hi, Below is my streams of income that you can use to monetize your blog. All of them is the my personal choices and I’m using some of them now at my blogs.
Although there is many kind of services out there, I think they are a worth to try and will bring you a good result.
If you are going to make money online, you should start with them:

Google have become a common view for nowadays blog. Google Adsense is easy to sign up and easy to apply. I found many big blogger still using it although some of them have try to switch to other type of monetizing.
(+)
- The advertisement appear as soon as you put in the code to your blog
- Supporting almost all blog engine like wordpress, blogger, typepad, livejournal, etc.
- Get result as soon as somebody click on the ads
- Suitable for blogger who have a decent blog traffic
(-)
- Less people will click on it because they know you will get $$$ from it!

- Your post must have a reasonable keyword density to make google display related ads
- Won’t suitable for beginner who just start a blog
Kontera is a good advertising program. They will index your pages and start showing any related ads directly inside your content. They called it “contentlink”. You will see a double underline link in this blog. That’s the contentlink.
When you hover your mouse, it will pop up a new div layer box to display the ads content.
(+)
- Very creative methods and won’t make your page looks pity by the ads
- High CTR - Click Through Rate (around 2 - 5%)
- Suitable for high Traffic blog
(-)
- Only displaying ads when you hover your mouse pointer to the double underline keyword.
- There indexed page poorly
- Ads Display is messy. Some page have a lot of contentlink while other is blank!
- Not Suitable for New Blog
(tips)
To apply Kontera on your blog, it have a minimum requirement of 500.000 page view a month. It is unreachable by any small size blog. The only way to turn this around is to using John Chow Services.
A totally great break out for online blog publishing. Chitika Not only show you the ads, it also provide you a description of the ads, the lowest price, where to buy and a search bar for finding other ads all in one.
Try to visit my technology blog and you will see chitika in action!
Chitika also have an ability to show multi product in one ads. Below is the example of it!

(-)
- Found no minus point here. May be you can add some?

I haven’t see a lot of people aware of clickbank as one of your nice stream of income in blogging. If your blog is about software review or money making blog, Clickbank is absolutely nice for you!

We can send but cannot receive any payment from paypal. In payperpost, you can request to the officer to send you a “check” instead of paypal payment.
Just click on the help and submit a new ticket!

Hmm… Reviewme is a good service if you manage to write a good post everyday. Because people will attracted to your style and will buy your review although it’s expensive!

(-)
- Your blog is measured by Alexa, Technorati and RSS subscriber. If you have low traffic blog, you will have a very low exposure
- The RSS Campaign Announcement is too slow. You will need to check back often

This services is alike with payperpost. The differentiation is on the bet function. You place a bet to the advertiser that you want to write a review at, and wait for the approvement.
(+)
- Interesting “Find advertiser” Feature to let you choose your advertiser
- You blog is worth high. Normal blog is around $20 for one review
- Bidding feature for Publisher
(-)
- Some of the advertiser is slow in respond
- Bidding is always fun, but seldom get a good result

TLA also have a cool feature to monetize your feed reader by applying to their feedvertising program.
(+)

- Text ads will not eat up a lot of space of your blog
- Each link will worth around $15 minimum and TLA allow you to display more then 10 links

(-)
- You cannot submit your subdomain blog. It takes months to have TLA accept your blog.

- Anymore from you?
Yup! It’s the top 8 I’m using at. Hope this list will help you to monetize your blog!
Haven’t tested Services:

The above reasons are right, But i like Adsense. Its just amazing with the relativity of ads with the context on your site
Reply to Vaibhav(July 19, 2007, 3:45 am)
But it depend of your keyword density. If you blog have a high density of certain keyword or niche, Adsense fits like twins!

Reply to Ken XuI bet your blog is very niche-focus!

Great list Ken, I’m mostly with Adsense! Have not discovered others service fully yet. May be i should do that this year

You should do it, Ben!
Reply to Ken XuAlways remember the old saying :”Don’t put all your e-Eggs in your e-Basket”.
Diversify your income can safe your day!
It is a lesson I learned from my aunty!
(July 19, 2007, 3:54 am)
That is a good learning indeed.! We need to look out for more options / opportunities.

Ken,
Reply to jamyGood post.
Yes, diversify is the key.
Today gold went up a lot, my portfolio went up 35% today. US$ tank, oil shoot up to nearly US$80/barrel now.
Say if I am a professional blogger and if I wanted to take off a couple of month and if I have a few other class of assets, I am protected. And if I am a gold investor , if gold go down, I still can blog :)-
Small example only lah :)-

Great! I got your idea here. Your meaning is that we should combine the offline and online streams of income together and make a HUGE Streams, isn’t it?
Great advise! your are mysite’s Advisor!

Very useful list Ken. I mostly prefer AdSense. I used to have In Text advertising like Kontera. But it has resulted in loss of subscribers and daily readers for me. So I stopped using it. I would like to give a tip too:
For all those smaller blogs out there, to earn $12 quickly, then join smorty and do the two reviews which they will give to everyone each worth $6. But I don’t recommend this to bigger blogs, as $6 per review surely a waste. Though it is money, you have to label it as sponsored and will get a bad impression on readers that you do a lot of paid reviews.
Thanks Ken for giving ideas to monetize a blog.
Reply to Ramkarthik(July 19, 2007, 6:59 am)
I’m agree with you. Smorty could give us 2 opportunities with each $6. I have also received their payment a month ago via paypal.
But until today, Smorty offer nothing but the asampoo shopping cart!
I wonder how they can survive in the blogosphere and that’s also my reason why I’m not recommend it to you.
You are welcome, Ram. Make us richer together is part of my dreams too!

Kopi is going to be rich. Yay!!
Reply to kuanhoong(July 19, 2007, 8:39 am)
That’s good if it is true, Hoong!
Reply to Ken Xu(July 19, 2007, 6:24 am)
Yeah diversification is the key….more diverse makes the subject little riskier…
Reply to Mr.Byte(July 19, 2007, 8:42 am)
Yup, you are right! Diversification is very important. No diversification means high risk and will depend to much on one thing.
Reply to Ken Xu(July 19, 2007, 11:56 am)
Currently i am using Adsense along with TLA . I tried Kontera but i was able to make 2$ in a month so removed it .
Reply to Madhur Kapoor(July 21, 2007, 1:53 am)
You got the same case with me. I earn $0.99 a month when first try kontera!
Reply to Ken XuBut, the sum become bigger today. Almost $1 a day! Hope will keep rising!
(July 19, 2007, 12:31 pm)
But, one thing I also want to emphasize is do not spread yourself too thin. Concentrate on the ones that you have passion and knowledge on. It is no good to be jack of all trade and master of none.
Reply to jamy(July 21, 2007, 1:57 am)
Yup. The power of focus have created a laser beam. We should become a laser beam and choose not more than 5 monetizing sources at first.
Reply to Ken Xu(July 19, 2007, 12:52 pm)
Great article. I think the -ve point with Chitika is that it doesnt tracks clicks from Asian sites. Read this somewhere, not sure about it.
Reply to Nirmal(July 21, 2007, 1:59 am)
Really? my chitika track the click normally. Nothing goes wrong. If that issue you hear is true, That is going to be a problem!
Reply to Ken Xu(July 19, 2007, 1:16 pm)
I prefer TLA and Adsense.
Reply to Shankar Ganesh(July 21, 2007, 2:02 am)
clickbank product also good, sankar!
1 sell = 75% commission. Around $37 commission if the product price is $50.
Reply to Ken XuI see many good product in their market place. That’s going to be a challenging affiliate marketing for me.
(July 19, 2007, 9:51 pm)
I like adsense, tried kontera but it made me only 80 cents so far! so I am not retiring it for sometime… would be using TLA now and see how that works out… great post Ken!! as always
Reply to pearl(July 21, 2007, 2:04 am)
Thanks! Hope kontera will give you more profit!
Reply to Ken Xu(July 29, 2007, 3:27 am)
I have the most success with using affiliate marketing to make money from blogs. Like Commission Junction. But Adsense and Clickbank do pretty well for me too.
Reply to Debt Free For Free(July 31, 2007, 11:42 pm)
You are right. Adsense and Affiliate marketing are the ultimate combination to earn some good buck!
Reply to Ken Xu(August 7, 2007, 7:39 pm)
Hi Ken
Nice round-up of the scene. We’ve gone back to the drawing board over at BlogKits and have a new option to offer bloggers - Review - methinks you may like it. Basically it runs CPC with coupons and a $100 weekly prize for the best submitted review - though I should point out this first campaign applies only to the US, more internationally applicable campaigns are on the way though.
B.t.w. I looked around for a email or contact form to contact you directly but figured a comment here should suffice. All the best.
