When you are trying to write an article or post on your blog, you should keep in mind that over-delivering will help you much in getting attention from your reader.
Over-delivering means to give more that what you should give. Or, to Bring more information that is more that sufficient to blow your reader away!
Well, of course our real reason to blog is not to “blow” them away!
Over-delivering information to your reader will make your post looks “credible”.
Just like the old e-saying: “Who do you choose to buy with, A hardcore salesman super-pitch or a warm and friendly friend’s recommendation?”
The answer is obvious. No people like to be hard-pitched by anybody. Because “Hard-Pitch” will make your reader “unhappy”. When your readers are “unhappy”, you will face the risk to lose them forever.
Over-Delivering your content to your reader will result in a different reaction too. But more-likely, it’s a positive reactions.
Over-Delivering will make your reader feeling “Happy”. It’s important to make them happy. Your blog-life is as same as a walking zombie if you have no happy readers visiting your blog.
Why make readers Happy?
Because when they are happy with your content, you will get more opportunity from your reader. Either you will get more friends, or guess blogging invites, more business opportunities and even you can make yourself a nice side stream income from your recommendation to your reader or ads.
What will make reader Happy?
Hey!
Ask yourself, you are writing in your “favorite” niche, right? Then you should know what make yourself happier. May be is about:
- getting freebies?
- discount, coupon code, rebates, special offers?
- More Detail description or anything that will add up plus point for your reader?
- Quick Solution with a detail instruction?
- Great Service that mirrored the professional aspect of yours?
- A surprise gift?
- etc, etc.
Basically, you need to provide something more that a person is needed, and in the way which they will like it! That’s over-delivering simple explanation.
The fact that you must digest well
Although you need to make your reader happy by over-delivering, Never become a slave to them. You will need to be objective at your observation and become one with the truth of the object.
Don’t try to cover any faulty and masked it will sweet swear and promises. Why? because as soon as your reader find out the truth, your will be in a serious trouble.
Be dare to expose out the negative side of your observation toward the subject you are reviewing or talking about. Yes, I would agree there will be a down-Stream on your CTR or click through rate toward what you are endorsing, but you have gained more important plus point from your reader, “trust!”
They will begin to trust your review if you are a newbie in your field, and they will become your loyal reader if you have established your ground well.
Hey, I’m also a learner!
Well, Although I write this post, I’m not telling you that I’m a “Over-delivering guru” or “master of endorsement” at all!
I’m also one simple person like you, who try to make some living online. I’m trying to make my every endorsement worth to read, and enough over-delivering to you.
If you have any kind of comments, please do them below. I don’t care if it is a negative comments. Negative comments will let us grow must faster that sweet words on the lips. ![]()

Humm. Nice ! Ken. But what about over loaded information ?
Reply to Myo Kyaw Htun(August 8, 2007, 11:42 pm)
Hi, Htun.
Overloaded information is to give too many kind of different subject in one piece of post, along with the useful and useless information together to make your reader nuts.
Over-delivering is to provide more “focus & important value” that your reader will need on one subject. For example, when your post is about “Cellphone XOXOX”.
Give more option than just review about how strong and how smart is the XOXOX cellphone.
like adding discount price from several vendors, or rebates, or may be you can find some competition that the prize is the XOXOX cellphone so your reader can take part in it.
You also can bring more testimonials from the current users and make some rating about it.
I hope this answer can resolve your difficulty, Htun!

Hi, Jamy. Over-Delivering to your reader means do more for them.
Best if you can add some more valuable experience toward the thing that your reader wanted.
People who come from search engine with a “black lady bag” won’t bother with other kind of color and man bag.
you can add more choice of black bag for lady or you can add discount black lady bag.
Or you can teach them what is the material of the black bag. It’s best for what moment to use, or how to choice which black bag will suitable for them.
I hope you get my idea.
Just a plain “hey I’m selling a black lady bag. The price is only $000! Click here to buy.”
No educative part to make your reader learn more about it.

Ken this was an awesome read. The concept you have brought to the surface is very genuine and much liked by me.
Over-Delivering is very important as makes your content seems more spicy and more descriptive.
Of course people want honest and faithful reviews about products. They don’t want the traditional “This is amazing” slogans and all.
I must say once again that was one nice post there.

If only more people would follow your advise
Then again, some marketers would be out of jobs

Hi, Yuri.

Reply to Ken XuThanks for commenting. I believe, there is a balancing act in in this world. This post may discourage or beat down some scam low mental marketer, but at the same time, it may have encourage a bunch of true or hot blooded marketer to do their best.
It may looks like a challenge for some people, and at the same time, it may become a sharp knife stabbed on their heart. Depend on their point of view, anyway…
By the way, Warm Salutation from me to you in Russia!
(August 9, 2007, 1:31 pm)
Yeah, equal things attract, so it is both easy and hard to make a huge difference.
I find that desire to improve and earn more drives people, though, sometimes. That’s how I learned stuff and learned to overdeliver
Thanks for the salute
Good luck with greenifying Beijing before the Olympiad, too

Ok, Pearl. I will.
Reply to Ken XuYour posts is enough in overdelivering to your reader. I like it and will read your post regularly.
(August 13, 2007, 10:15 pm)
Great post. I will attempt to over deliver in my posts from now on. I do also agree that you can go too far in the other direction. You don’t want readers to think you are aiming your blog posts towards people who know nothing about what you are talking about. I think it’s unnecessary to over deliver on common sense things that most people probably already know.
Reply to Matt Wolfe(August 14, 2007, 1:24 am)
Hi, Matt. It’s nice to have your comment here!
Reply to Ken XuSure, overdelivering in a common sense is really wasting you time and your reader won’t appreciate it much.
(August 13, 2007, 11:14 pm)
Great point here.
Do you think that there is a danger in over-doing it though?
I know that I have had a few posts where I could have covered a lot more in the post, but decided not to because I thought the post was substantial enough already.
Adding more would have made it too long, and the main purpose of the post had already been answered.
Reply to Michael from Pro Blog Design(August 14, 2007, 2:02 am)
Yeah, you’re right. Basically, you can’t over-delivering all kind of post. If you try to force an over-delivering, your post will looks “dumb” by your reader.
Sometimes we also need to trust our instinct. And Mirrored to our own interest in the post. I believe you are writing what you like, aren’t ya?
That will help a lot to overdelivered to your reader who have a same mind-frame as you.
